Paint Protection Spray, known as PPS, is an alternative to traditional Paint Protection Film. It starts life as a liquid and is applied directly to the vehicle’s paintwork using specialist spray equipment. Once applied, the material is allowed to flow out and cure, creating a seamless and durable protective film.
Unlike traditional sheet film, PPS has no visible joins or exposed film edges. It follows the shape of the panels and helps protect against the wear and tear that comes naturally with driving, including stone chips, scratches, scuffs and road rash.
The original paintwork remains protected underneath, and the PPS can be removed when required. This makes it suitable for new cars, performance and prestige vehicles, classics, motorcycles and leased vehicles where preserving the original finish is particularly important.
Every application is completed in our temperature-controlled spray booth using specialist equipment and a carefully controlled process to achieve the correct finish, thickness and durability.

What Is Paint Protection Spray?
Paint Protection Spray is a sprayable form of removable paint protection designed for the areas of a vehicle most vulnerable to damage.
Rather than fitting pre-cut sheets of film, the PPS material is atomised through a specialist spray gun and applied directly to the prepared paintwork. It is built up in stages before curing into a flexible protective layer with a smooth, high-gloss finish.
PPS can be applied as a clear protective film to preserve the vehicle’s existing colour. Coloured systems can also be used to change the appearance of a vehicle while protecting the original paintwork underneath. The colour change is reversible because the protective material can be removed without permanently altering the factory finish.
Application must be completed by a trained installer with the correct facilities and equipment. The condition and preparation of the paintwork underneath also have a direct effect on the finished result, so every vehicle is inspected before work begins.
How We Apply Paint Protection Spray
Every PPS installation is carried out in our temperature-controlled spray booth using specific HVLP spray guns.
The process starts with a careful inspection of the vehicle and preparation of the panels being protected. Existing chips, scratches or paint defects may need to be corrected or repaired first because the PPS follows the finish underneath it.
The sprayable film is then applied in stages, consisting of primer layers, basecoat layers and gloss topcoats. We allow the required initial curing time between each stage rather than applying the complete system in one pass.
A paint depth gauge is used throughout the application to measure the thickness of the individual layers and confirm that the completed system has reached the required specification. Our installations are applied to a minimum total PPS thickness of approximately 200 microns.
The finished thickness is recorded in the warranty booklet supplied before the vehicle is collected. Qualifying Paint Protection Spray installations are covered by a five-year warranty, subject to the terms of the installed system and correct maintenance.
Which Areas Can PPS Protect?
The front bumper and bonnet are among the most vulnerable areas of a vehicle because they receive the greatest exposure to stones, grit and road debris.

Paint Protection Spray vs Traditional PPF
Paint Protection Spray and traditional Paint Protection Film are both designed to protect the original paintwork, but the materials and application methods are different.
Traditional PPF is supplied in sheets and fitted over each panel. PPS begins as a liquid and is sprayed directly onto the prepared bodywork before curing into a removable protective film.

Traditional PPF is often promoted for its self-healing properties. In our experience, those properties can reduce over time, and film can become less attractive if dirt and debris collect around visible seams or edges.
PPS does not have the same level of self-healing performance as some sheet films, but its surface can be machine polished during its lifespan and, where required, sanded and refinished by a trained installer.
Its greatest advantage is the completely seamless application, particularly across complicated panel shapes where conventional film edges may otherwise be visible.
Can Paint Protection Spray Change the Colour of a Vehicle?
PPS can be used to protect the existing colour of a vehicle or create a completely reversible colour change.
A coloured system allows the appearance of the vehicle to be transformed while the factory paintwork remains protected underneath. When the PPS is removed, the original colour is revealed without the permanence of a traditional respray.
This can be useful for owners who want a different finish without permanently changing the vehicle, as well as leased vehicles that must eventually be returned in their original colour.
Available colours and finishes should be discussed before booking because the options will depend on the PPS system in use.
Combining PPS with Ceramic Coating
Once the Paint Protection Spray has been applied and cured correctly, it can be further enhanced with a compatible ceramic coating.
PPS provides the physical barrier against stone chips, scratches and road wear. Ceramic coating adds water repellency and makes the protected surface easier to clean while helping reduce the build-up of dirt and environmental contamination.
The two systems perform different jobs, so combining them can provide physical paint protection alongside easier ongoing maintenance.

Paint Protection Spray for Leased Vehicles
PPS can be particularly useful for leased vehicles because it provides a removable layer of protection over the original paintwork.
Stone chips, scratches and scuffs may lead to end-of-contract charges where they fall outside the leasing company’s acceptable wear-and-tear standards. Protecting high-impact areas from the beginning can help reduce direct damage to the factory finish during the lease.
The PPS can be removed when required without permanently changing the original paintwork, provided that the underlying finish was suitable when the film was applied.
It cannot guarantee that every return charge will be avoided, but it can help protect vulnerable areas from the damage caused by everyday driving.

The timescale depends on the panels being protected, the preparation required and the curing time between layers. We will inspect the vehicle and provide an expected completion date before the work is booked.
The surface needs to be clean, sound and correctly prepared. Scratches, stone chips, poor previous repairs or other defects may remain visible beneath the finished protection, so we will assess the paintwork and recommend any correction or repair work required first.
Yes, provided the existing paintwork is suitable. Used vehicles may require more preparation than new cars, particularly where there are swirl marks, chips, scratches or previous paint repairs. We will inspect the vehicle before confirming what work is needed.
Use safe wash methods, suitable car-cleaning products and clean wash equipment. Avoid harsh chemicals, aggressive brushes and automatic car washes, as poor washing can affect the appearance of the protective surface. We will provide appropriate aftercare advice when the vehicle is collected.
This depends on the position and extent of the damage. Because PPS can be sanded, polished and refinished by a trained installer, some damage may be repairable without removing all the protection from the vehicle. We will inspect the affected area before recommending the appropriate repair.
Light surface marks may be improved through careful machine polishing where appropriate. Deeper damage will need to be inspected to determine whether the affected area can be refinished or whether part of the system needs to be removed and reapplied.
Potentially, but the refinished panel must be fully cured, stable and suitable for application. We will inspect any previous paint repairs and confirm whether further preparation or curing time is required before PPS can be applied.
PPS is intended to be removable, but the condition of the paint underneath matters. Original factory paint in sound condition is generally the best surface for application and later removal. Previous repairs, weak paint adhesion or poor refinishing may increase the risk, which is why we inspect the vehicle before installation.
